We are proud to introduce the 1st World Vintage Football Carnival to be staged in wonderful Buenos Aires, Argentina in October 2011.
Previously planned for Hawaii, the 1st Carnival is to be played on fields in one of the great football centres of the world. The decision to transfer the Carnival to Buenos Aires was at the request of a number of teams who expressed interest in being involved and expressed a preference for a leading football destination.
The introduction of football to the Vintage family of sports follows successful and enjoyable Carnivals in rugby, cricket, softball, golf and hockey. The Vintage Football Carnival, Buenos Aires 2011 is the latest and quite possibly most exciting in a strong line of Vintage Carnivals.
"The 1st World Vintage Football Carnival in Buenos Aires follows extensive planning and research" says Earle Thomas, football director of the Carnival. "I am delighted at the response we are getting and believe this will be a great opportunity for the older footballers to enjoy playing their sport on excellent grounds in sensational football destinations. The people of Buenos Aires are excited at the prospect of hosting players, supporters and officials from many parts of the football world."
Earle Thomas, Football Director is an ex- New Zealand International, playing 48 internationals over 13 seasons including 2 years as Captain. In that time, Earle found the back of the net 18 times and is considered one of the outstanding football personalities to have represented his country.
Sam Malcolmson, who will be 'Football Advisor, is remembered as a key member of the 1982 New Zealand All Whites who took part in the World Cup in Spain in that year. Sam played for Airdrieonians, Queen of the South and Albion Rovers in Scotland before emigrating to New Zealand in 1974. Sam represented New Zealand on 34 occasions as an aggressive defender who liked to attack. Scoring 5 goals for his adopted country.
"Sam and I are looking forward to meeting players of all ages (over 35), of all abilities, experience, agility and aptitude. Vintage Football is for all those players who can still strap on boots and make their way to the field - fun and friendly competition on the field and fun and lots of friendly socialising off it" said Earle.

Content
Summed up - it is mature football for mature footballers designed by footballers. Designed to ensure that all who take part enjoy the experience to the full. It is traditional football with all the established rules and is played with official referees on established pitches.
It is not Masters Football and is played-always competitively-but primarily for the fun of the game and the opportunity to test your skills against players from other countries and clubs.
Vintage Football is for players aged 35 and over on September 30th 2011, with no upper limit. Teams will be graded into approximate age groupings as follows:
- 35 up (generally aimed at younger competitors but with no upper age limit)
- 45 up (slightly older and again no upper age limit)
- 55 up (mature players and again no upper limit)
We are slightly flexible in allowing players not far under the age limit to join teams in order to ensure full teams may be fielded. There may be no more than 2 players under age and the flexibility is at the discretion of the organisers. Whatever age, all players are expected to take part in recognising the Vintage Football objectives of fun and friendship on the field, and relaxed socialising between all participants off it.
All players are expected to be as competitive as their age, agility and fitness allow them. Vintage Football welcomes players of all level of skill and experience. The Carnival is all inclusive and is as much about taking part as it is about winning games. Teams will be asked to self assess their ability standard and select a category within which they wish to play:
- Competitive
- Semi-competitive
- Once Were Competitive
- Almost Social
While the organisers recognise that the objective of any team is to win every game – there is no trophy for an 'Overall Winner. Awards and trophies are provided for but in the spirit of Vintage Football: -
- Fun team
- Hard case team
- Best dressed
- Best sports
. . . and so on.
Vintage Football is not the Masters but it is the chance to play competitive football within your age group, within your ability and for your enjoyment of meeting teams, players and officials from other parts of the world.
